Kickstart Your Mentoring
duration:
1 x 2-hr VIRTUAL MENTEE only BRIEFING
1 x 2-hr VIRTUAL MENTOR ONLY BRIEFING, and
1 x 1-hour virtual joint mentee-mentor kickstart meeting
Traditionally, mentoring was a hierarchical relationship involving a wise, senior who dispensed wisdom, knowledge and advice to a grateful but essentially powerless junior. In contemporary mentoring relationships, the mentee may still be matched with a more senior or ‘experienced’ person, but the focus now is more on how both parties can learn and grow.
Modern mentoring relationships are based on a more mutual, equal and collaborative learning alliance.
This workshop provides the ideal forum for establishing a collaborative, respectful, and empowering mentoring relationship, as part of a formalised mentoring program where mentees have been pre-matched with a mentor for a given duration. The mentees and mentors join separate virtual workshops prior to meeting up with their pre-matched mentoring partner, to commence a joint Mentee-Mentor Kickstart Meeting.
By the end of this workshop, both mentors and mentees will emerge having:
shared the mentee’s goals, needs, and expectations for the mentoring relationship;
a clear understanding of the agreed mentoring relationship with regard to their respective roles and responsibilities and some agreed shared ground rules for the relationship;
discussed some mentoring tools and frameworks to support a mutually beneficial mentoring relationship; and
met their mentoring partner and commenced an initial mentoring plan including agreed future mentoring meeting dates, times, and possible mentoring activities, resulting in the creation of a Mentee’s Learning Plan.
