Empowering Virtual Teams

duration: 1 x 4-hour virtual workshop

If the COVID-19 global pandemic has taught us anything, other than the importance of health, family, and social connectedness, it’s that working with and managing or leading a virtual team is very different from managing an on-premises or in situ team.

During this most challenging of times, many of us were literally thrown into a virtual team environment at very short notice being forced to either ‘sink or swim’.

What empowers and motivates a virtual team? How is being a manager of virtual teams different from being a manager with an ‘in-the-office’ team? How and what do you need to do differently to get the most out of individuals and the virtual team, as a whole?

This workshop explores the what, the why and the how of empowering virtual teams.

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • identify their own virtual team’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats;

  • establish a clear virtual team working agreement.

  • describe the impact of a virtual working environment on their team communication and interpersonal relationships;

  • identify appropriate technology for maximising ‘face’ time with their team.

  • explore strategies for preventing and managing the escalation of individual and virtual team conflict;

  • discuss individual needs and working preferences in a virtual team; and

  • practice using some helpful online team collaboration tools.
