Delegation is possibly one of the most empowering tools in the manager’s toolkit, yet it’s often the least used. Giving people the responsibility for and control over work that is not usually theirs can be a huge motivator, but if you get it wrong, delegation can also be a huge demotivator.

There are so many reasons why those in management roles won’t delegate and there are so many reasons why they should. What are your reasons for not delegating? How do you delegate tasks, currently, and how do you ensure the delegated task is empowering and not demotivating?

  • recognise how to adapt your communication and leadership style to the needs of the individual receiving the delegated task;

  • recall and use a 6-step approach to effective delegation;

  • practice and demonstrate a 6-step approach to effective delegation.
