Management and Leadership

Management and Leadership are terms used interchangeably and yet, they are both distinctly different practices. Whether you’re new to a management or leadership role, or you’ve been in your role for some time, having an understanding of the differences is an important starting point for understanding what it takes to become a great boss.

This workshop provides participants with an opportunity to develop their understanding of the difference between managing and leading people, as well as an opportunity to develop self-awareness of their current and potential management and leadership skills. It is a practical and solutions-focused approach to developing professionally in the role they’re in, or in the role they aspire to hold in the future.

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • describe and discuss the difference between management and leadership and their importance;

  • list the four (4) functions of management;

  • explain the skills mix necessary for effective management and leadership;

  • list and discuss the ten (10) best-known leadership theories;

  • explore the five (5) practices of exemplary leadership;

  • analyse and consider the flexibility and agility necessary for a manager/leader to use Interactional Leadership and Situational Leadership II approaches in the workplace;

  • practice and consider the impact of adopting different styles of leadership with individuals and teams at work;

  • explain recent findings in the field of Neuroleadership and how it provides useful frameworks for collaboration and influence in leadership;

  • explore fixed versus growth mindsets and how a leader fosters and encourages more growth thinking;
