Assertiveness

The term ‘assertiveness’ has been a part of our mainstream vocabulary for more than 40 years and yet there are many who are unsure of what it actually means. Indeed, a very common mistake is made when people consider assertiveness and aggressiveness to mean the same thing.

This practical workshop provides participants with a safe and structured forum to explore their assertion skills, and overcome some of their greatest communication challenges.

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • define assertiveness on a continuum of behaviours - what it is and what isn’t;

  • self-assess their own ability to communicate assertively;

  • identify their personal challenges with assertive communication and the benefits of overcoming those challenges ;

  • explore their own assertive communication delivery;

  • use different approaches to assertively protect their own needs and priorities;

  • practice and demonstrate assertive communication tools and frameworks; and

  • develop their own toolkit of assertiveness.
